James Kira Daniels is a Director of South Pacific Energy Resources, bringing extensive experience in governance, community leadership, public engagement and strategic communications.

A highly respected broadcaster, former Christchurch City Councillor and trusted public voice, James has built a career around connecting people, communicating complex issues clearly and helping organisations navigate matters of significant public interest. His ability to engage diverse audiences and build meaningful stakeholder relationships provides valuable insight for projects that require strong community support and long-term social licence.

James began his broadcasting career at the age of 22 and has since held a number of senior roles across New Zealand’s media landscape. He is widely recognised for his work as co-host of Newstalk ZB Afternoons, where his thoughtful approach, engaging storytelling and balanced commentary earned the trust of listeners throughout the country.

Alongside his broadcasting career, James has maintained a strong commitment to governance and public service. He has served as a Christchurch City Councillor and has held governance positions with significant cultural and commercial organisations, including the Ngāi Tahu Property Group and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. Through these roles he has gained extensive experience in Māori economic development, strategic governance, cultural engagement and community accountability.

Throughout his career, James has been involved in projects of cultural, commercial and civic importance, developing a reputation as a trusted communicator and relationship builder. His experience working across government, iwi, business and community sectors enables him to bring a balanced and pragmatic perspective to complex projects and stakeholder environments.
